Vibrational, Elastic Properties and Sound Velocities of ZnAl2S4 Spinel

Abstract. Nine parameter rigid-ion model is used to calculate the zone-centre phonon frequencies, elastic properties, sound velocities along symmetry directions and Debye temperature for ZnAl2S4 spinel. We have also calculated the interatomic interactions upto third nearest neighbours. The main outcomes of present calculations are that the tetrahedral bonding is stronger in comparison to the octahedral bonding. We have compared our calculated results with the previously available experimental and theoretical data.
