Determination of Optimal Physical Characteristics of Glass Microelectrodes and Their Content in Intracellular Action Potential Recording

Abstract. In this study physical characteristics of glass microeletrodes which used in biophysical researches were investigated. Tip diameter and the resistance of microeletrodes were measured. It is known that length, inner and outer diameter, chemical structure of glass electrode and even shape of the tip of the electrode is also important in action potential recording [3,4]. In present study it was also absorbed that type of electrolyte and concentration are also take role in quality recording. Applied DC current is one another parameter in recording because intensity and duration were found to be effective due to arising resistance in the tip of microelectrode. As a result it can be said that the type of selected glass microelectrode and the concentration of electrolyte solution are highly important.
