Abstract. The effect of temperature variation in the -40 - 70°C range on the attenuation of optical waves in multimode graded-index fibres is studied experimentally. Differences are found in the attenuation for unextruded and extruded fibres. The role of the secondary coatings in the damping is analysed at different temperatures and different wavelengths.
