Influence of Compliance for Second Harmonic Generation on Electromagnetic Wave Polarization

Abstract. We study polarization of fundamental electromagnetic wave in the case when its second harmonic is resonantly generated in cold, collisionless, homogeneous and magnetized plasma. A linearly polarized electromagnetic wave, emitted by a source, becomes elliptically polarized in general case. The difference of polarization angles, obtained for resonant and nonresonant generation of second harmonic, is calculated at different distances from the source. The influence of magnetic field, plasma density and angle between magnetic field vector and direction of electromagnetic field propagation on polarization is considered.
