Abstract. modified Sood model was used to investigate the effects of rotation - vibration. As a consequence, it is indicated that the energy expression as a rational polynomial (RP) in total angular momentum I provides an excellent approximation to the ground state band excitation energies in U (A = 230-238). The shape of the nucleus in uranium even-even isotopes is controlled by a softness parameter, and the softness is believed to prevent the nucleus from becoming a rigid entity. The reason is discussed on the basis of the centrifugal stretching as well as the shrinkage.
