Water Tightness Investigation of the Second Dam of Façeshi Reservoir by the Means of Tracer Methods

Abstract. The site conditions of the situation of Façeshi second dam (Tirana region) as well as some construction characteristics made it necessary to investigate the identity and origin of waters emerging at its foot. After having uniformely labelled with Na131I the reservoir water layer in direct contact with the dam, we have controlled in situ during several consecutive days the radioactivity in outgoing waters and measured in lab conditions other water samples gathered each 8 hours in two control points. The results we have obtained have proved the dam was sufficiently tight. They offered a good explication to semi-quantitave conclusions of the stable isotope analysis of water samples for 18O and 2H in precipitations of local origin, reservoir water and outgoing water.
