Investigation of the Pulse Breakdown Characteristics in Nitrogen by Dynamical and Time Delay Measuring Methods

Abstract. The results of the pulse breakdown characteristic research are given in this paper. We showed that the surface law, in nitrogen near the minimum of the Pashen's curve, is valid. Pulse characteristics for small voltage increase rates are obtained by dynamical method as well as for small overvoltages by time delay measuring method. The pulse characteristics are obtained when the surface law was assumed to be valid and the static breakdown voltage was estimated by least squares method. For these overvoltages and the ranges of the voltage increase rates, good agreements between experimental and theoretic results are obtained. The static breakdown voltage value can be estimated by the least squares method based on surface law.
