Dosimetric Measurements of Low Power Microwaves Absorption in Liquid Samples

Abstract. We aimed to develop a suitable methodology for microwave experimental dosimetry. In order to determine specific absorption rate (SAR, [W/kg]) of microwave energy in various liquid samples exposed to 1..10 mW microwave amplitude modulated field, we used a thermocouple probe inserted in a sample irradiated in a special designed exposure system. The experimental arrangement consisted of the microwave PIN modulated generator, tuning screw power adapter, waveguide with cell sample and the temperature measurement module (thermocouple or thermistor sensor, two channels 21 bit data acquisition board, personal computer). The paper presents the experimental setup, discussion about problems and limitations of the method, the results of the study and future improvements needed.
