Abstract. A calibrated photoacoustic detection technique has been used to investigate the rotational energy transfer for SF6 molecules in SF6-Ar gas mixtures, irradiated by pulsed 10P(16) CO2 laser line in the fluence range of 0–0.5 J/cm2. Particular attention was paid to evaluate the bulk rotational relaxation data in Ar pressure range (0–140 mbar), broader than cited in the literature. Results for bulk R → R/T parameters show different behavior for the low and high buffer pressure region.
