Abstract. We present results of an investigation concentrating on some common misconceptions in fundamental magnetism and electricity such as susceptibility, magnetisation, polarisation, electric field, magnetic field, and magnetic induction. Especially the fundamental concepts are examined based on some of the most widely used several textbooks in physics departments all over the world. The results are summarised and some fair suggestions are presented in order to resolve the existing contradiction.
