Abstract. We consider a two-electron exchange through the free space between the two adjacent oxygen atoms forming a right angle in a conducting CuO2 plane. This exchange attraction could give origin to the BCS pairing in layered cuprates. An estimation shows that the properties of high Tc superconductors can be interpreted as a consequence of well investigated atomic process.
