Abstract. A linear analysis of the modified Ginzburg-Landau equation for a SNS (superconducting/normal/superconducting) junction with two rough boundaries is presented. An integral equation for the spatial variation of the complex-valued order parameter (the wave function) is formulated and solved to the first order of the surface fluctuational heights. The influence of the surface roughness on the current-phase relation and the structural fluctuations of the critical Josephson current density are investigated analytically.
