Model Kinetic Equation for a Plasma in a Strong Electric Field

Abstract. A kinetic equation in the BGK approximation is proposed for the electrons in a fully ionized gas subjected to a strong electric field. Solutions of our equation are in agreement with results of Fokker-Planck code calculations for temporal relaxation of the electron velocity distribution function (EVDF). Spatial development of EVDF is also studied.
