Abstract. Red HgI2 crystals have been obtained by the method of temperature oscillations in quartz ampoules with different diameters. Growth rate has been found to depend on the ampoule diameter connected with processes limiting the mass transfer from the source to the growing crystal. The growth rate dependence on crystal temperature has been investigated.
