Abstract. The purpose of this work is to investigate the radial distribution of the wave and plasma characteristics of microwave discharges sustained by azimuthally symmetric (m = 0) waves travelling along a coaxial structure at low pressure and to compare their characteristics with those of the cylindrical plasma column at similar discharge conditions. The investigation is based on a numerical one-dimensional radial fluid model. The basic relations in this model are Maxwell’s equations. Plasma characteristics and the wave radial profiles were obtained and compared.
