Wedge-Like Asymmetry Contribution to Flexoelectricity in Nematic Mixtures

Abstract. Experimental values of the flexocoefficient difference |e| = |e1z − e3x| of a BMAOB/"swallow-tail" mixture as a function of the concentration of a "swallow-tail" compound are analysed. The fact that the extrapolated value of this difference is somewhat lower than originally expected is explained by a theory showing that the strong steric asymmetry of "swallow-tail" molecules gives a comparable contribution to both flexocoefficients.
