Recent Development of Direct Femtosecond Laser Frequency Comb Spectroscopy

Abstract. The direct observation of the velocity-selective optical pumping of the Rb ground state hyperfine levels induced by the femtosecond pulse-train excitation is a new challenge in the atomic physics. It is like the multi-Bennett hole burning in the Doppler profiles of the atomic resonance lines. We discuss some new possibilities in the experimental visualization and eventual applications of the accumulation effects in populations and coherences.
