Abstract. Radiation doses received by the Romanian population from annually exposure to natural radiation background have been updated. The new value of the annual per caput effective dose is 2.69 mSv, with the following contributors: 0.33 mSv — cosmic radiation, 0.51 mSv — gamma terrestrial radiation, 0.31mSv — long-lived natural radionuclides taken into the human body by ingestion and 1.54 mSv — short-lived decay products of radon and thoron, by inhalation. The resulting annual collective effect ive dose is of 60590 manSv.
